I promise this one will be short. :) Our trip to Copenhagen wasn’t just about Mikkeller bars. I am, however, kicking myself a little for not exploring more of the craft beer scene outside of the powerhouse brand.
We did, however, make it out to Fermentoren, a hidden away beer bar in the vicinity of the Meat Packing District of Vesterbro in Copenhagen.
Space-wise, it’s much tinier than any of the bars we visited on our holiday. It was a cozy, hygge kind of tiny though – it was dark, candle lit and quiet, and the bar gave us a chance to get acquainted with the other breweries from Denmark like Amager, Stronzo and Hornbeer on tap. Nick also loved that they had some rare sour beers by the bottle and I bought him a bottle of Cantillon Fou’ Foune (S$58).
The place was manned by just one dude, who had pretty awesome product knowledge, and the atmosphere there was friendly. We made friends with a Swedish guy en route to the US for an awesome beer holiday, and the local Danish people hanging out at one of the three other tables in the bar were helpful enough to translate a news story on the television about a bomb threat in Arhus. We’d definitely go back. :)
