Beer Can Lah at A For Arbite

The last year has seen us gain a little more exposure for our home brews and the craft of home brewing your own beer. We’ve been at it for three years now, and last week, we headed out to spread the word again. The Great Beer Experiment’s Corrine clued us in on CRAFT, a festival of crafters, slam poets and local musical talents taking place at A for Arbite at the newish Aliwal Arts Centre and we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to show people just how easy it is to brew a beer in a small space with […]

The Better Beer Festival

Nick and I took a quick weekend trip up to Kuala Lumpur earlier this month for the Better Beer Festival, held at what’s possibly KL’s best craft beer bar, Taps. The place is pretty damn amazing – its wholly owned by Malaysians and the bar’s most awe-inspiring feature is the FOURTEEN taps serving craft beer on draft. If only we had a place like this here in Singapore, but of course, we here have our own trials to overcome, but more on that another time.

REVIEW: Brewerkz Taphouse at Dempsey Hill

Taphouse is a new bar concept brought to you by the people that brought us Brewerkz. It is located in Dempsey Hill, which usually I don’t go to often as the price range is not accessible to us – Dempsey seems more like a rich person’s playground, judging by the kind of hardware you see up there. Thankfully, Taphouse is much more accessible to the regular man.

Nick & Nat are going on a mini-pilgrimage!

Happy long weekend, you beer loving folks! :) Nick and I have been so massively busy with thesis writing and work, respectively, that we actually forgot to book a holiday for the four day long extravaganza that is Hari Raya and National Day. Nevertheless, we managed to score an awesome staycation at The Fullerton (thanks Fullerton and Time Out!), but more on that another time. Having missed out on this chance to leave town, we’ve decided to book a quick weekend trip away just in time for a beer event happening nearby in September. Spreading the craft beer missive from […]

THIS WEEKEND: AN IRISH RED ALE

We will be brewing an Irish Red Ale this weekend, one of my favorite styles. I’ve tried to brew this style a few times with not much success – I’ve always end up with metallic flavors in the beer. So hopefully this time will be better. Brew day normally takes four hours and involves plenty of mess in the kitchen, but hopefully come Monday we will have a fermenting Irish Red Ale and in two weeks we will have a lovely beer to share.

MEET OUR TECH AT GEEKCAMP SG

Are you curious to find out what we are using to craft our beers at home? Our equipment is a mix of cheap local and second hand parts, hacked and modified to make a versatile brew setup. We plan to write about the technology on this blog in the future, but if you happen to attend this years GeekcampSG, you have the chance to attend a presentation by Markus showing some of the tech off. If you want to know how the Arduino and the Raspberry Pi  are used to control a soup heater for mashing and a second-hand fridge […]

WE’RE PLAYING OUT!

Yepp, we’re bringing our kegs out for the first time ever (barbecues don’t count)! Nick and I are bringing two beers and a talk to The Great Beer Experiment this Sunday at 10.30am. It’s really early to be awake on a Sunday morning, if you ask us, anything for good craft beer is worth sacrificing sleep for! Titled The Great Singapore Experiment, the awesome Corrine and Lincoln from TGBE have invited ourselves, Aditya Challa from Jungle Beer and Scott Robinson from Brewerkz to speak on a bunch of topics craft beer related and share our brews. Nick and I will […]
